# Account settings

> Set the profile, the personal preferences, the personal notification methods, the password, and the sessions of an account.

**Account settings** hold what belongs to one person rather than to the workspace. Open the user
avatar in the top bar and choose **Account settings**, **Preferences**, or **Notify**. Every member
can change their own account settings; no permission is needed.

| Group | Section | Purpose |
| - | - | - |
| Personal settings | **Profile** | Display name, avatar, and a short description. |
| | **Preferences** | Theme, density, timezone, date format, start page, and keyboard shortcuts. |
| | **Notify** | Personal notification methods, delivery order, and quiet hours. |
| Security & access | **Security & sign-in** | Password reset. |
| | **Active sessions** | The session of the current browser. |
| Workspace | **Workspace & identity** | Workspaces, roles, and identifiers for automation. |

## Profile

| Field | Rule |
| - | - |
| **Display name** | The name that other members see. |
| **Sign-in email** | Read only. An administrator or the identity provider manages it. |
| **About you** | Optional, up to 500 characters. |
| Avatar | **Change avatar** uploads a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image of up to 2 MB. **Remove** goes back to the initials. |

Select **Save changes** to keep the profile.

## Preferences

Personal preferences take precedence over the [defaults of the workspace](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/settings/organization.md#preference-defaults).
A query page can still change the time display for the current investigation.

| Section | Field | Choices |
| - | - | - |
| Appearance | **Default theme** | **System**, **Light**, or **Dark**. |
| | **Interface density** | **Comfortable** or **Compact**. Compact tightens rows and spacing in tables, log lists, navigation, and settings, and leaves charts, code, and conversations as they are. |
| Time & region | **Default timezone** | **Browser timezone** or a named zone. Dashboards, logs, metrics, and traces show times in it. |
| | **Date & time format** | The date as `2026-07-27`, `2026/07/27`, `27/07/2026`, or `07/27/2026`, and the time in **24 hour** or **12 hour** form. |
| Startup & interaction | **Open after entering workspace** | **Home**, **Last visited page**, **Dashboards**, **Logs**, **Metrics**, **Traces**, **Alert incidents**, **Mole Agent**, or a specific dashboard. |
| | **Enable keyboard shortcuts** | Turns the [global shortcuts](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/console.md#keyboard-shortcuts) on or off. |

Select **Save settings**. Leaving the page with unsaved changes asks whether to discard them. The
interface language is chosen under **Language** in the user menu, not here.

## Notify

**Notify** lists the methods that reach the member in the current workspace, and the order in
which MoleSignal tries them.

**1. Bind a method**

Select **Bind notify method**. Choose a **Connector** that an administrator configured under
[Settings → Notify → Connectors](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/notification-channels), and enter the
**External identity**: an email address, a user ID of the IM platform, or a phone number with
`+` and the country code for voice and SMS. Give it a **Label**.

**2. Test it**

Select **Send test** on the method. A message that arrives proves that the connector accepts
the identity.

**3. Have it verified**

A method delivers only when it is enabled and verified. An administrator with
`org.members.manage` selects **Verify** on it after confirming that the identity belongs to the
member.

**4. Choose it for a category**

Under **Delivery preferences**, turn on **Receive this category** for **Alert events**,
**On-call events**, or **Reports**, and put the methods in order with **Move endpoint up** and
**Move endpoint down**.

For **Alert events**, every step after the first can wait a number of minutes before it is used.
A later step reaches the member only when nobody has acknowledged the alert by then. A step with the
same minutes as the step before it is used only when that step fails to send. See
[Move on when nobody acknowledges](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/notification-channels#move-on-when-nobody-acknowledges).

**Use quiet hours** stops notifications of the category to the member between a **Start** and an
**End** time (`HH:MM`) in the chosen **Timezone**. They are not sent later. **Allow critical alerts
to bypass quiet hours** still lets alerts of the `critical` severity through. Remove a method from
every delivery preference before deleting it.

The personal order is tried before the fallback routes of the team and the organization. See
[Notification channels and delivery](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/notification-channels).

## Security and sessions

**Security & sign-in → Change password** sends a password reset link to the sign-in email. The
link works as described under [Sign in](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/console.md#sign-in).

**Active sessions** shows the session of the current browser. **Sign out this device** ends it.

## Workspace and identity

**Workspace & identity** lists the workspaces that the account belongs to, with its role and
status in each. **Switch** changes the current workspace. A workspace that a platform administrator
disabled cannot be opened.

**Advanced information** shows the **User ID**, the **Organization ID**, and the
**Organization slug** of the current workspace, each with **Copy**. Scripts, API calls, and
resource paths use them. **Manage workspace API tokens** opens
[API tokens](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/identity/tokens.md).
