# Organizations and teams

> Create organizations, move into the IAM of another workspace, and group members into teams for on-call, escalation, and ownership.

Open **Identity & Access → Organizations** or **Teams**.

## Organizations

**Organizations** is a platform page: it appears in the `_sys` organization and requires
`sys.organizations.manage`. It lists every organization of the instance, with the role of the
account in each, or **Not a member**, and the slug and the ID.

**Manage IAM** switches to an organization and opens its **Identity & Access**. It needs a
membership in that organization, and the organization must be enabled.

To create an organization:

1. Select **Create organization**.
2. Enter a **Name** and a **Slug**. The slug identifies the organization in APIs and resource paths
   and cannot change later.
3. Select **Create organization**. The creator becomes its Owner.

Disable, enable, or delete organizations under
[Settings → Organization management](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/settings/platform.md#organization-management), also in
`_sys`. An organization is never deleted from inside itself.

## Teams

A team groups members of one organization. Teams are used as:

* the team of an [on-call schedule](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/alerting/on-call.md), and a target of an
  [escalation policy](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/alerting/on-call.md#escalation-policies);
* the scope of a [fallback route](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/notification-channels#configure-fallback-routes) of notifications;
* the principal of an [access grant](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/identity/roles.md#access-grants);
* the owner of [Mole Agent](https://docs.molesignal.com/en-US/agent#organization-team-and-personal-resources) chats, knowledge,
  skills, and other team resources.

To create a team, select **New team**, enter a **Name**, pick the **Members**, and select
**Create team**. Every member must belong to the organization. Select a team to change its name or
members.

**Delete** removes the team. Its members keep their accounts. A team that still owns Mole Agent
resources cannot be deleted: move or delete those resources first.

Opening **Teams** requires `org.members.read`. Creating, changing, and deleting teams requires
`iam.policies.manage`.
